Coronation Street viewers spot 'penny drop' moment as they predict who could end Stephen Reid

Coronation Street fans think they have spotted the moment the penny may have dropped for one character who could end up revealing Stephen Reid as the serial killer that nobody knows he is.

As fans of the ITV soap know, it has now been weeks now since Stephen, played by Todd Boyce, claimed his last victim, businessman Rufus Donahughe, after bumping off Leo Thompkins and his dad Teddy, but now it's now fiancee Elaine Metcalfe who is in his sights.

Earlier this week, viewers saw Stephen lose his temper in the factory after furiously sending the staff home due to his frustrations over the sale of Carla Connor's shares in the factory. Rival businessman Owen Longford, who is currently in line to take over at Underworld and was unimpressed to find out that Stephen has been scheming to ruin his romantic chances with Jenny Connor.

During their confrontation, Owen vowed to fire him from the factory as soon as the contracts are signed. Stephen was then quick to warn Carla Connor against selling the factory but she insists that she has to for the sake of her mental health leaving the money-strapped businessman kicking himself.

The frustrations of the day then got the better of him, and Stephen was soon seen trashing the factory floor before being spotted by Michael Bailey. And his frustrations only continued when Elaine snapped at him for again suggesting they invest in the factory, despite her wanting for them to enjoy married life and retirement together.

Stephen has since been seen swapping Elaine's blood pressure tablets for caffeine pills but when they didn't seem to work fast enough for his liking, he crushed some up and laced her tea, which he has form for having done this to his boss Carla but with LSD, and later leading to Elain's collapse.

Later, he saw Sally Matcalfe in the street beside an ambulance who informed him Elaine had been found after she somehow regained consciousness after her tumble and was able to call 999 for help. Over at the hospital, son Tim eventually arrived and Elaine explained that she'd felt dizzy and had to call for help.

It was Carla who appeared concerned for Elaine (ITV)

Meanwhile, at the Rovers Return, news of Elain's trip to the hospital reached the Platt's with Audrey left concerned for her son's future wife. But it was Carla who caught viewers' attention as something that was said between the pub-goers. "Did you see her?" she asked Maira Connor. She replied: "Yeah briefly. To be honest with you, she didn't look too great," to which Carla painted on a face of concern.

And Corrie fans quickly commented on the moment wondering if this could be when Carla links Elaine's experience with her own. @cumiskey55 tweeted: "Has the penny just sort of dropped for Carla. Is she beginning to put two and two together. #Corrie." @Gemma42981517 said: "Carla think hard - you recognise what’s happening to Elaine …… #Corrie."

@Cinders12345678 posted: "Carla’s ears poked up when she realised Elaine had been taken in hospital by ambulance is she thinking something god I hope so #Corrie." @itzzzo_ shared: "We need Tim and Carla to team up, she seemed suspicious when Maria was telling them about Elaine. #Corrie."

@sabrina_p_786 asked: "Did Carla prick her ears up when she heard Elaine was poorly?" To which @thomassonalison replied: "Yes, she did, so hopefully both her and Tim will be on Stephens case this storyline is going on way too long." @annmahon13 added: "I thought she did.. she, the character is intelligent enough to work out the connection....surely."
