Coronation Street unveils first look at 60th anniversary week episodes in dramatic trailer

Coronation Street celebrates 60 years of delivering gripping drama, as well as plenty of tears and laughter, through our TV screens next week - and a teaser trailer gives fans a taste of what's in store.

A dramatic trailer released by the soap shows evil abuser Geoff Metcalfe setting alight number 6 Coronation Street in a week that will see the conclusion of his wife Yasmeen's trial for his attempted murder.

Geoff, played by Ian Bartholomew, menacingly calls himself 'Teflon Geoff' as he prepares for a final showdown with her granddaughter Alya, with the family's nightmare being far from over.

Elsewhere the bulldozers move in as part of sleazy entrepreneur Ray Crosby's plan to demolish the famous street in cahoots with Kevin's sister Debbie Webster.

But he meets resistance from Weatherfield legend Ken Barlow and Rita Tanner who stand up for their beloved community.

On the street the residents watch with horror as a bulldozer heads towards the brewery, and Rita leads them in a rousing rendition of We Shall Not Be Moved.

"We've had people like you around here before," says Rita, played by Barbara Knox.

"And we've seen them off."

"This isn't a development, this is demolition," shouts Ken, played by William Roache who joined the soap in the first episode on December 9 1960.

Meanwhile Daniel Osbourne rails at his nephew Adam Barlow after the truth emerges that he slept with Peter Barlow's partner Carla Connor.

"Peter has been more like a brother to you. How could you betray him?" asks a furious Daniel.

"You can't tell anyone," begs Adam.
