Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver shows off her weight loss as she dazzles in a plunging suit

Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver wowed as she showed off her weight loss in a plunging black suit.

Sue, who has played Eileen Grimshaw in the soap for 19 years, looked a far cry from her downtrodden character as she dazzled at the When You Wish Upon A Star annual Black and White Ball at the Hallmark Hotel in Manchester.

She teamed her sleek suit with a pair of animal print heels.

The actress, one of When You Wish Upon A Star’s long-standing patrons, stepped out on the red carpet with her partner Brian Owen.

The actress has been involved with When You Wish Upon A Star for many years, regularly volunteering at their annual Winter Wonderland event which sees Wish families enjoy a Christmas weekend away together at at Center Parcs.

Earlier this year it was reported that away from the famous cobbles Sue was thought to have lost three stone and dropped from a size 16 to a size 12 to 14 after cutting out gluten and following a low-sugar Mediterranean diet.

In 2011 it was reported that Sue, who studied at the Manchester Metropolitan School of Theatre, collapsed on set in 2011 due to her diabetes and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

“Sue was always a self-confessed foodie, who admitted that over-indulgence was her Achilles Heel. Now everything’s changed," a source previously told Woman magazine.

Sue, 56, who is diabetic, reportedly switched to a healthy lifestyle so she can enjoy a longer life with her partner and son Elliot.

Last year her character was devastated to discover that her husband Pat Phelan was a serial killer, and her recent romance with builder Jan Lozinski also headed for disaster.

Eileen was devastated when she thought her boyfriend was part of a human trafficking ring but it turned out that Jan, played by Piotr Baumann, was a police informant working undercover to successfully expose the operation.

He was dramatically shot by trafficker Rachel Healy but discharged himself from hospital and quietly slipped away after Sean Tully warned him to leave Eileen alone.

Her sons Jason and Todd have both fled the street , and the only constant in her chequered life is her pal, Street Cars boss Steve McDonald.

Sue was joined at the event by her co-stars Daniel Brocklebank and Rob Mallard, who play vicar Billy Mayhew and Daniel Osbourne, and Julia Goulding who plays Shona Ramsey and her husband Ben Silver.

Julia, who is expecting her first baby, showed off her baby bump on the red carpet in a chic black dress and heels.

This year’s theme was A Night At The Musicals and celebs gathered to raise money to grant wishes to children with life threatening illnesses across the north west.
