Coronation Street's Sam star Jude Riordan shares pride as brother joins him on soap to fans' surprise

It was a family affair on the cobbles during a recent episode of Coronation Street - and fans may not have even realised it. During Wednesday night's edition of the ITV soap, viewers watched as Sam Blakeman's chess obsession continued.

The youngster, who got into chess alongside Roy Cropper following the death of his mum Natasha, appeared to have finally won over the support of his dad, Nick Tilsley, after he found out his son had been playing chess behind his back after trying to get him to stop.

Earlier this week we saw Nick concede that he's been overprotective of Sam and when Roy reveals that there’s a children’s chess tournament taking place, he agrees to let him take part. Sam is, of course, thrilled to hear about the chess tournament, but when he asserts that he’d rather Roy take him, Nick had to hide his disappointment.

But, with the chess tournament underway during the latest hour-long episode of Corrie, fans saw an excited Sam takes his place opposite his opponent, ready to battle it out for a place in the final and without Roy in sight as it was Nick who was able to watch on with pride. During the scenes, Sam was trying to keep calm and prepare for his semi-final chess game in the Bistro while his opponent and his mother stood opposite.

Oscar was clearly getting in the zone, not giving any eye contact with his headphones on, with Nick commenting: "That Oscar's a bit intense isn't he?" before Sam replied: "Mindfulness app," referring to what his next opponent was listening to.

Sam ultimately won the game meaning he was through to the final and offered his hand to Oscar, who got up and stormed out of the Bistro quickly follow by his mother.

Meanwhile, Nick jumped out his seat and started applauding his son, telling him: "You destroyed him," to which Sam told him off. "Dad sush... it's not a football match. They're much more chilled on the chess scene."

And as the scenes aired, Jude Riordan, who steals the show playing Sam, took to social media to reveal he know his opponent very well as it was his brother.

"When it was bring your brother to work day," he said on Instagram, which is run by his parents, alongside a series of photos of both their names on the dressing room door and them filming the intense chess scenes. Jude added: "BEST DAY."

On his Instagram Story, a picture was shared of the TV as Zach appeared on screen. Written across it was: "Seeing your brother on Corrie," before another snap of the pair appeared of them behind-the-scenes in front of a 'Coronation Street' sign. Jude said: "Showing my brother the ropes @zach_rio18."

He also shared the revelation on Twitter, writing: "When it was bring your Brother to work day. Sam smashed Oscar out of the bistro. BEST DAY so far @itvcorrie #bubblebrothers #samvoscar #corrie."

And Corrie fans were quick to share in Jude's delight.

@miss1katy said: "Didn't realise that was your real brother @JudeRiordan wow how lovely!! I didn't catch all the scene but saw him looking a bit intense and not sure if he actually spoke in the end haha aww fab having a scene together playing Chess Rivals!!"

@lucylove826 commented: "No way! That's awesome!!" while @jayloustarkey shared: "Ah wow it was your brother that’s amazing."
