Coronation Street's Robert accidentally gets engaged to two women after awkward discovery

Robert Preston found himself in a bit of a sticky situation on Coronation Street last night after an awkward discovery had catastrophic results.

The Bistro chef, played by Tristan Gemmill, managed to get engaged to his pregnant girlfriend Vicky... despite already planning his wedding to Michelle Connor.

Vicky (Kerri Quinn) had her bags packed and was ready to leave for Ireland, tired of being Robert's "dirty secret".

After an angry exchange, Vicky's son found a ring - belonging to Michelle, Robert's fiancée - which Robert was taking to be resized.

In an awkward turn of events, Vicky thought it was for her and demanded Robert propose.

Backed into one corner, lying Robert was forced to pull one more lie out of the bag and asked her to marry him.

This isn't the first time that Robert has almost been caught out.

Back in June, Michelle started to become very suspicious after Robert kept disappearing off. However Robert managed to worm his way out of it by claiming that he had been with a travel agent planning their surprise honeymoon.

While they were separated, he embarked on an affair with Vicky. Months later, however, when Michelle said that she wanted to get back together with him, he was delighted.

But when he tried to break it off with Vicky, he discovered that she was pregnant. Desperate to be a dad, he decided to try and lead a double life.

But it looks like that double life might come crashing down as the two women discover the truth.

Actress Kerri Quinn, who plays Vicky in the soap, said it would be "lovely" if her character and Michelle, played by Kym Marsh, could unite against Robert.

She added, "I suppose they're thinking what's going to make the best drama."

"Vicky is pregnant and I suppose killing each other is not really an option.

"We still don't know. We're hearing stories but nothing set in stone so I don't know how it's going to pay out.

But I'm sure they will eventually find out about each other."

*Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV
