Coronation Street fans 'work out' who is to blame as Imran dies after car crash

Coronation Street actor Charlie De Melo has officially bowed out of the ITV soap.

Wednesday evening's episode saw his character Imran Habeeb die after being involved in a car crash with his wife Toyah (Georgia Taylor).

The pair were driving home from the police station, but it's not entirely sure how the accident occurred.

As paramedics loaded Toyah into the back of an ambulance, Imran insisted on going with her but collapsed as he tried to get into the vehicle.

Paramedics were seen trying to revive him and did so for around 15 minutes, but it was later confirmed that Imran had passed away.

Toyah's cousin Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) was present as the doctor broke the news to her and she admitted that she couldn't remember much about the accident.

A policeman later visited Toyah in hospital to ask her some questions, much to the annoyance of Leanne.

"Do you remember hitting the scaffolding?" the officer asked her, to which she replied: "No I was driving down Scallo road and the next thing I remember is waking up in the ambulance.

"Imran wanted to come with me and then he collapsed, I saw it," she said as she suffered a flashback.

"What do you think must have happened?" the officer then asked a confused-looking Toyah.

"Maybe the car skidded or I lost concentration for a second," she replied, but the policeman was quick to shut her theory down.

"There were no skid marks.," he said, as Leanne blurted out: "So?"

"Which means the car didn't slow down at all," he continued, before adding: "It indicates that no brakes were applied."

Looking concerned, Toyah fired back: "I must have hit the brakes," as the officer asked her: "But you don't remember doing so. Can you think of any reason why the brakes wouldn't have worked?"

Leanne's mind immediately went to Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell), who had offered to fix Toyah's car earlier in the day when it wouldn't start.

A police officer questioned Toyah in hospital about how the car crash happened (ITV)

She also threw Abi's name into the mix as the officer reminded her that it was a "very serious allegation" as Toyah tried to get her head around the idea of Kevin tampering with the brakes.

However, some viewers tuning in at home actually think it's Toyah who caused the car accident.

Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: "Wonder if Toyah found out about Imran and crashed the car with shock #Corrie."

Another said: "Wait. So big Kev fixed the car, does that mean it was Toyah's fault #Corrie."

Some Corrie fans have suggested that Toyah crashed the car on purpose (ITV)

A third viewer questioned: "Toyah facing a death by dangerous driving charge? #Corrie."

And a fourth person posted: "Toyah crashed on purpose i bet. Hope we don't have to wait months before they do flashbacks #Corrie."

Another viewer tweeted: "#corrie I hope toyah caused the crash and she gets banged up."

Coronation Street airs at 7.30pm on ITV and ITV Hub every evening this week.
