Coronation Street fans in for a treat as show set to air dark post-watershed episodes next week

Coronation Street fans are in for a treat as the Manchester-based soap is set to air its dark post-watershed episodes from June 1.

The show generally takes place at either 7:30pm or 8:30pm, however, The Masked Dancer is to take its usual spot every evening except Wednesday due to the world cup qualifier match between England and Austria.

The ITV soap tends to air a week of post-watershed episodes when talent show series Britain's Got Talent airs its live semi-finals and finale.

However, Britain's Got Talent has not taken place this year due to filming being near impossible due to the current coronavirus pandemic.

Its replacement The Masked Dancer, which is a spinoff of the ever-popular Masked Singer, will air from Saturday May 29, according to The Mirror.

Corrie's dramatic week sees a brutal shootout involving Gary Windass, as he manages to uncover the truth behind Sam's kidnapping.

Jenny is onto Sharon Bentley, who was involved in organising Sam's kidnap for her nephew Harvey, played by Will Mellor.

But Sharon is aware that Jenny is onto them and realises she needs to up her game, so begins quizzing Toyah about Leanne's latest visit.

Elsewhere, Natasha ends up confronting Gary as she accuses him of being the one to hire the man with a van who kidnapped Sam, but Jenny is intrigued to find out that it was Sharon who hired it.

When Jenny voices her suspicions to Ronnie, he remarks that he overheard Sharon speaking to Toyah about Leanne.

Jenny is worried and immediately tells Toyah and Imran that she suspects that Sharon was involved in Sam's kidnap.

Imran goes on to reveal that Sam was kidnapped in order to lure Leanne out of hiding as she is the key witness in a drugs trial.

Jenny is determined that Rita should know the truth and bangs on her door, only to see Sharon - leaving her in danger...

Imran goes on to report Sharon to the police over Jenny's suspicions as Rita returns home to see that Sharon as about to do a runner.

Rita demands some answers and Sharon ends up pouring out her heart, explaining that her relationship with Ian fell apart and she was forced to join her drug dealing brother.

Sharon admits her life completely fell apart and Rita reassures her that she still loves her, regardless of what she's done.

Meanwhile, Maria is stunned after discovering that Gary helped find out what happened with Sam's kidnap.

Gary spots the van used for the kidnap outside the Kabin and he forces it open, demanding that Rita phone the police as he goes after Sharon.

Yet, the driver pulls out a gun and a shot is fired - will Gary be OK?

*Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV
