Coronation Street fans gobsmacked over Ken Barlow's vet bill for tragic Eccles

Coronation Street legend Ken Barlow was grieving the loss of his beloved dog Eccles on Friday night.

But he was left even more distraught when he received a hefty bill to pay for the pooch's treatment, and for her to be put down.

Eccles was a pretty old dog, originally belonging to Ken's mother-in-law Blanche before her death.

Ken tried to sneak little Eccles into is new retirement home, but this didn't go to plan.

After 14 years on the ITV soap, Eccles was put to sleep on Wednesday leaving everyone including Ken devastated.

Friday night saw him reeling from the loss, even lashing out at his retirement home enemy over comments about the loss.

The vet confirmed that Eccles had a tumour on her spleen - with the only options being a risky operation or letting her go peacefully.

Unfortunately, the vet later announced that the tumour had spread to the canine's other organs and was impossible to move

It was when Ken got the bill for the vet visit the next day that many viewers were left confused.

Ken said that the vet had told him it would cost around £1,000 as it was the cost for the surgery and the medicine to put her to sleep.

He then shared his horror at this being true, while daughter Tracy joked she could do the job for far less.

Fans at home though were more confused, suggesting the price was a "bargain" and that such vet visits would normally cost more where operations were involved.

One viewer said: "Blimey Ken got off lightly with a bill for just a grand."

Another tweeted: "Included surgery, euthanizing & probably a casket. Grand’s a bargain."

A third added, a little unsure: " #Corrie a grand to put a dog down hahahaha f**k off."

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm on ITV.
