Saira, who also starred in Hollyoaks, wrote: "I said yesss. Mrs Jackson it is then. love you @jaxson_2013 Met you 23 years ago."

Sharing a snap of her engagement ring, she added: "Who knew our journey would lead us here. Here’s to our next chapter."

The pair were pictured stood in front of Edinburgh Castle as hundreds flocked to congratulate the happy couple in Saira's comment section.

"Wow ! Amazing news congratulations to you . Looking beautiful . Happy New Year," wrote one follower. "Super congratulations! Really happy for you both," said another.

Making reference to her Hollyoaks character, a third said: "Anita Roy truly has grown up, can’t believe she’s getting married!

"Many congratulations to you, wish you all the best on the exciting journey ahead."

A fourth penned: "Congratulations to you both. Happy New Years and enjoy Edinburgh tonight." While another said: "All the joy and happiness to you both. How exciting."

Saira played reporter Naila Badil in Coronation Street, on and off between 2013 and 2019. She played schoolgirl Anita in Hollyoaks for four years between 2008 and 2012.

She's also appeared in other TV shows such as No Offence, Life and Cold Feet. Currently she is in kids' CBBC TV series Dodger.

It comes after news that Coronation Street airs life-threatening twists and turns next week, as accidents and shocking plans cause havoc.

There's a possible drowning as Nina and her uncle Roy are caught up in a horrifying river incident.

Elsewhere, Teddy's fate is revealed after he was run over by a van - with killer Stephen hoping he doesn't remember their suspicious last conversation moments before the accident.

Max Turner fears for the safety of those on the street when he realises Griff is likely planning something bad, just weeks after him and his extremist group making an explosive and accidentally setting it off.

Linked to this plot, Spider finds himself fighting for his life when Griff attacks him - as his undercover operation could be exposed.
