Cork hurling boss Kieran Kingston reshuffles backroom team after Ger Cunningham departure

Cork hurling boss Kieran Kingston has added top performance coach Gary Keegan and ex-Rebel star Pat Mulcahy to his backroom team in a major coup for the county.

The news follows Ger Cunningham’s decision to step away as Cork coach for work and family reasons, while Christy O’Connor has also left the set-up.

Keegan previously worked with Kingston and Cork, while he has also been involved with Dublin footballers and the Ireland rugby team.

Mulcahy is an All-Ireland winning defender from the back-to-back side of 2004/05.

Cork have also added Noel Furlong as a coach/selector and Stephen Casey as a strength and conditioning coach. Earlier this year Furlong led Cork to a first minor hurling All-Ireland title since 2001.

The changes are set to be ratified at a meeting of the Cork County Board tonight.

Kingson led Cork to this year’s All-Ireland final, where they lost out to Limerick.

Cork defeated Clare and Dublin in the qualifiers, before taking Kilkenny out after extra-time in the All-Ireland semi-final.

The Rebels are still on the lookout for a first Liam MacCarthy Cup since their back to back since 2005.

Cunningham has previously coached Cork twice, while he recently managed Dublin for a spell.
