Cork city slammed and labelled 'absolute dump' in comments of Guardian article

Cork has got a hard time in the comments section of a Guardian article that was published earlier this week.

The British media outlet made a list of ten things to do when visiting Cork -  all of which are great advice  - but it was the comments that got people talking.

So far there have been in excess of 100 posted on the site and a lot of them are not very complimentary of the city, CorkBeo reports.

Some have labelled Cork an "absolute dump" and another said it was "s**t and "very grim" - something we strongly disagree with.

Commenter steveboxo said of us: "Cork has good character in parts and feels more like an old northern Spanish city now (that's no bad thing) but a lot of the city is totally s**t and very grim. The people are a pain in the arse, they never shut up about how great Cork is and how crap everywhere else is, its okay for a day or two but over a few weeks it's very tiresome."

Sadken81 added: "My ex mrs is from Cork. Dreaded the times I had to fly over to the in-laws. Absolute dump.

"Kinsale down the road is lovely though."

And the bad comments don't stop there - dozens of people let rip on our great city, some of whom even lived here for a time.

Chymist said: "I spent a year in Cork. That's a year I will never get back.

"It is a scuzzy little place - but you would not expect the people who contributed to the article to agree. They have more than a bit of a vested interest. The people of Cork spend so much time bitching about Dublin, it is a wonder they have time for anything else.

"What it has would be fine in a town of 10,000 people but for a real life, grown up city - it is pathetic.

"My suggestion, if you want a break somewhere half decent in Ireland go to Dublin or Limerick or Galway - or even Belfast - but never set foot in the drain that is Cork."

Budhudnut added: "Cork is a distinctly unpleasant little city. Visitors are frequently advised to bring extra salt and vinegar for that endless supply of shoulder-chips they'll encounter."
