Cork City FC's amazing gesture to popular fan for nailing the crossbar challenge

Cork City FC have given a popular fan of theirs a VIP experience - after he nailed the crossbar challenge in front of a packed Turner's Cross stadium on Friday evening.

A massive clash in the League of Ireland First Division saw league leaders City take on second-placed Galway United in front of over 6,300 fans.

Though the game finished in a tight 0-0 draw, there was one moment everyone hasn't stopped talking about since it happened.

At half time of the game there was the usual crossbar challenge, and first up to give it a shot was Stuart McCarthy, a popular fella who's a diehard fan of the Rebel Army.

After hyping up the crowd, Stuart stepped up and duly smacked the ball off the woodwork to send the supporters crazy.

And it got better for Stuart in the aftermath, as over the weekend he was invited along to Bishopstown to watch the team train.

There, he was presented with his own jersey, signed by the squad, and even had time to give the crossbar challenge another go in front of first-team boss Colin Healy.

Naturally, he repeated the trick.

It's not just football that Stuart is proficient in either.

He's competed in the Special Olympic Games in the past, playing basketball and is a regular at Sunday's Well Rebels - the first mixed ability rugby team in the country - even taking part in a World Cup with the side.

He's sure to be back in the Cross on August 5 when City take on Athlone Town in the league, with Healy's side looking to secure promotion back to the Premier Division at the end of the season.
