Cork captain Alan Bennett and Colin Healy to assist interim boss John Cottor

Cork captain Alan Bennett and former Rebels midfielder and academy director Colin Healy will assist John Cotter during his stint as interim Cork City boss.

Right-hand man to John Caulfield for the last five years, the former No 2 takes on the top job for the foreseeable future.

Caulfield parted company with the Rebels on Wednesday after a disappointing run of results ahead of tomorrow's clash with Bohemians.

Cotter - who is on the current Pro Licence course - said: “I’m delighted and honoured to take up this new interim role.

“I’m looking forward to getting the head down and trying to get the club back up the table as quickly as possible.”

Centre-back and club stalwart Bennett steps into first-team coaching for the first time and said: “It’s been an honour to play for and captain this club.

“I’m now looking forward to working with John and the rest of the backroom staff over the coming days and weeks.

“Our focus is on preparing the team for tomorrow's  game and trying to put together a run of results.”

Healy - the former Irish international and Celtic man - said: “Having spent the last 18 months working with the club’s academy, I’m  looking forward to getting involved.”

Cork City chairman Declan Carey said:  “John Cotter is a very experienced coach and manager, with a long association with our club.

“He’s highly respected. The board will soon begin planning for our longer-term options for first team manager.

“Both Alan and Colin are steeped in Cork City and their experience, knowledge and passion for the club will be a great addition.”
