BRIEF: Cops: 2 robbed woman walking in Lakeview with cash in her hand

Oct. 22--Two men have been charged with robbing a woman of cash she was holding in her hand as she walked down a busy street in Lakeview, authorities said.

Michael Lee, 22, and Devontae King, 20, are both charged with robbery in the attack on the 23-year-old woman about 10:45 p.m. Monday in the 3100 block of North Clark Street, according to a police news release.

Lee also is charged with misdemeanor battery because he hit a man in the head when the man tried to stop the robbery, police said.

The woman was walking on Clark with the cash in her hand when Lee and King came up and robbed her, police said. A 25-year-old man who saw the robbery tried to stop them, and Lee hit him in the head, police said.

Lee and King fled, but police were called to the scene and the two were arrested soon after and identified as the robbers, police said.

Lee, who gave his address as the Pacific Garden Mission in the 1400 block of South Canal Street, and King, of the 400 block of East 51st Street, were each ordered held in lieu of $100,000 bail in a hearing Wednesday afternoon before Cook County Criminal Court Judge James Brown, prosecutors said.

The two were scheduled to appear in court again Monday.
