COP26: President Biden takes Edinburgh detour on way home to see Forth Bridges

President Biden was seen departing from Edinburgh this week after his appearance at COP26, but that apparently wasn't before he got in a little sightseeing.

The POTUS had caused excitement in the capital on Monday after Air Force One touched down at Edinburgh Airport, before a huge motorcade headed to Glasgow.

With the whirlwind stay over just 36 hours later, it seems that the president had made a quick trip along to South Queensferry to catch a glimpse of the Forth Bridges.

Before heading directly to the landing strip on Tuesday night, the huge motorcade convoy, which includes presidential limousine 'The Beast', were seen making the "intentional" detour.

A tracking route taken by the supporting helicopter shows the vehicles passing the airport turnoff on the M8, and instead heading to the viewpoint at night.

The convoy headed along the M90, where the President would have been able to get a picturesque view of the iconic trio lit up against the night sky.

According to the Sun, the convoy then headed back towards the airport, where Air Force One took off not long after 10pm.

Reports from the White House have confirmed that the detour was ‘intentional’ due to a delay in airspace issues.

Although President Biden has now left the COP26 summit, the climate conference will continue until November 12, with a number of deals hoped to be struck in efforts to avoid global warming and other key issues.
