A police officer who allegedly solicited child abuse material and shared it on social media has lost his bid to keep his identity hidden from the public.

Constable Laurence Javan Alleman was arrested after a joint investigation by NSW Police and Australian Federal Police into online child abuse material.

Police allege the 26-year-old uploaded the child abuse material to a social media platform on January 15 in the vicinity of his home in Clemton Park, in Sydney's southwest.

A month later, he is accused of soliciting child abuse material using a carriage service.

On the day of his arrest, it is alleged the constable twice possessed or controlled child abuse material obtained using a carriage service.

Despite the different dates, all of the offences are alleged to have occurred between 8.17am and 3.40pm.

Investigators searched Alleman's home on October 2 and seized a number of electronic devices before arresting him.

When the constable faced Bankstown Local Court the next day, magistrate George Breton made an interim suppression order preventing reporters from identifying the police officer.

Alleman's lawyer argued the order was necessary to protect his client in custody.

But after time considering submissions further, the magistrate on Friday ruled the police officer's safety concerns were "pure conjecture".

"There has been no suggestion of harm against the defendant since his arrest," Mr Breton said.

"It's a rationally formed fear, but one that may never be borne out."

He revoked the order, noting submissions from a media lawyer who argued the public interest in open justice was best served by accurate reporting on court proceedings.

Alleman will remain behind bars on remand until he returns to court next month.

He has not entered pleas to the four charges against him, which include two charges of possessing child abuse material using a carriage service.

The constable with the Central Metropolitan Region is suspended without pay from the NSW Police Force.

His employment status is under review.
