Art lovers around the world isolated by the coronavirus pandemic are recreating famous works of art and posting the results to social media, the #tussenkunstenquarantaine aka "between art and quarantine" phenomenon extending to a particularly creative Cooma family, who have even fashioned the National Gallery of Australia's most famous work, Blue Poles, from LEGO.

Art teacher Karen Vincent and her sons, Noah, nine, and Tobey, seven, while stuck at home have been letting their imagination run wild, recreating works from Banksy to Henri Matisse to Frida Khalo.

They decided to tackle Blue Poles with LEGO and the National Gallery, taken by the result, posted it to Instagram with more than 5500 likes and counting.

The NGA has also co-opted the global challenge, urging patrons to choose their favourite painting from its collection, use three objects from around the house to create it and then post the results with the tags #BetweenArtandQuarantine, #MuseumFromHome and #NationalGalleryAus

Ms Vincent, who was trained in art and now works in learning support at Monaro High, said she always wanted to instill a love of art in her sons, both students at CoomaNorth Primary.

For Blue Poles, they spent about an hour sorting the LEGO into the right colours, tipped it all out and it was Tobey's job to position the poles just so.

The NGA reckoned the family had "outdone themselves" with the LEGO artwork.

The family was in Canberra by chance on Friday and stopped by the gallery, even just to run in the grounds.

"We love the gallery. We're members and the kids have grown up seeing the works," she said.

The art challenge has been a welcome distraction while the family observes social distancing.
