Coolio says new song with Christy Dignam will be a 'banger'

Rap legend Coolio is once again back in Dublin and is currently working on a collaboration with Christy Dignam

In an interview with The Irish Examiner, the Gangsta's Paradise hit maker revealed that they've "just got into" the production of the song and promised that it will be a "banger".

He said: "We’re working on a track. We haven’t even started writing any lyrics.

"The track is being built as we speak. Somewhere within the next four to six weeks we should have something tangible we could work with.

"It’s probably going to be a banger, I would imagine. I don’t know if it’s going to be dark and deep or if we’re going to go clubby and happy — that remains to be seen.

"I’m more inclined with being dark and deep and still being a banger."

Coolio is no stranger to Dublin. He is currently in the capital working with young Irish producer Evan Kennedy, who he described "a talented kid".

The 58-year-old star recently enjoyed a night out in Conor McGregor's Crumlin pub, The Black Forge, with Dublin hip hop duo Versatile, AKA Casey Walsh and Alex Sheehan.

Coolio is known to be a fan of the Ringsend musicians and even appeared in a video for their 2019 single Escape Wagon. At the beginning of the song, the Gangsta's Paradise hit maker can be heard drawing comparisons between Dublin's Ringsend and Los Angeles and labelled the inner city neighbourhood "the Compton of Europe".

Coolio's love for Dublin is said to have begun when he became friends with the South African-born owners of Zulu Tattoo in Dublin's north inner city. Nowadays when he has days off in Europe, he often comes here instead of going home to America.
