Hidden away on the East Sussex coast, surrounded by the beautiful Romney Marsh, you’ll find this week’s Cool Stay of the Week.
The Coastguards Beach House, set among stunning marshlands and with the calming sea as a backdrop, is the perfect place to escape.
As the name suggests, the cottage here was built in the nineteenth century for the coastguards who were employed to protect the coast against smuggling and invasion. It is now a cosy hideaway for holidaymakers escaping to the seaside so spend a week or a weekend at this historic stretch of coast.
Inside, you’ll find an open plan layout with contemporary furnishings with wooden detailing and a bright colour palette to evoke a seaside feel. The kitchen is a sociable space with a large breakfast bar and it opens out onto the cosy living room with armchairs and a comfy sofa gathered around a wood-burning stove.
You’ll find the bedrooms and modern bathrooms upstairs, all with stunning views. The master bedroom has a luxurious double bed where you can wake up to the sound of the waves, while the second bedroom has twin beds with the option of an additional fold-away single bed, making the cottage perfect for family trips. This bedroom also has an ensuite shower room.
Outside, you’ll find a peaceful garden complemented with outdoor furniture and a barbeque. Walk Just 80 metres from the cottage and you’ll be on the beach.
The surrounding eateries use locally sourced food like Romney Marsh Lamb and Rye Bay Scallops – so expect to see these on the menu in local pubs. Romney Marsh is a haven for keen walkers with 100 square miles of diverse landscapes to explore. As well as the spectacular scenery, discover some of the many species of birds, insects and plants. For those who are a little more adventurous, there is a kitesurfing centre just five minutes walk down the road.
