Convicted rapist banned from deleting internet history binned dating app and chat records

A convicted rapist banned from deleting his internet logs because he posed a “risk of sexual harm” to women binned a dating app and chat records from his phone and computer, a court heard.

Aaron Herschell – the first prisoner in Scotland to change gender while on remand – was caught when a detective visited him to check he was obeying the court order restricting his internet use.

Herschell, 22, of West Calder, pled guilty on indictment at Livingston Sheriff Court to breaching an interim Risk of Sexual Harm Order between October 30 and December 10, 2019.

He said he committed the offence after a drinking session and claimed he was finding it difficult to cope with life outside prison.

Herschell was sentenced to two years in custody at the High Court in Glasgow in 2017 for raping a 19-year-old girl and attempting to rape an 18-year-old.

The jury heard he met both teens through a dating app.

Sheriff Peter Hammond deferred sentence until April 21 for reports and remanded Herschell in custody.
