A convicted killer who stabbed a man to death and raped a woman has an "unhealthy interest" in strangulation, a court has heard.
Michael Stone, 48, denied an allegation of rape during a five-day trial was unanimously found guilty by a jury following three hours of deliberation last month. Stone was also previously found guilty of assaulting the same woman at another trial.
On Thursday Cardiff Crown Court heard the assault took place before and after the rape and involved the defendant biting and strangling the victim.
Stone, of Pontalun Close, Barry, denied the charge and rejected claims he had strangled the victim, who is legally entitled to lifelong anonymity, during the incident.
Prosecutor Ruth Smith read a statement out on behalf of the victim who claimed the incident had led to a worsening of her depression, left her "scared", and had also led to her being afraid of being intimate with other men.
The victim's statement said: "The impact this has had on me has been life-changing. I feared for my life. I don't feel like a woman anymore – I feel like a child. Since this I haven't been in any other relationship. I'm scared of men now.
"My mum had a mental breakdown after I told her what had happened – she was admitted to hospital after it.
"I was really worried about her. I'm worried about him being released from prison. He said he will kill me and I know that he will. I'm so scared."

David Pinnell, mitigating, said there appeared to have been "outbreaks of violence" when the incident occurred.
Mr Pinnell also said Stone had shown the "right attitude" since being in prison and had been committed to his education and activities.
Mr Pinnell said: "He told me just a few moments ago: 'I just want to get on with what I need to do and what I am told to do'."
Judge Neil Bidder QC took this into consideration while sentencing Stone for rape and assault which resulted in bodily harm.
The judge told Stone: "I'm quite sure you have an unhealthy interest in strangulation. It's just as much about releasing your anger, and showing your dominance, as about sexual desire.
"You endured abuse as a child which obviously has had an impact on your life. You have been trying hard in education. You suffer from arthritis. You are prepared to do more work. I think that is a hopeful sign for the future.
"I'm sure that you pose a risk of serious harm to members of the public."
Stone was given an extended determinate sentence totalling 18 years.
He was told he will serve at least two-thirds of the sentence before being considered for release and a restraining order was imposed. Stone was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £181.
Ann Haile of the Crown Prosecution Service said: “Rape is a horrific crime and this was a terrifying experience for the victim but the strength she showed in giving evidence allowed the CPS to present a strong case to the jury resulting in this conviction.
“We hope that knowing justice has been done will help the victim move on from this awful incident.”
South Wales Police declined to issue a custody photo of the defendant.
