Controversial Ayrshire hotel up for sale at knockdown price

An Ayrshire hotel that closed suddenly throwing a couple's wedding plans into chaos is up for sale at a knockdown price.

Dalgarven House in Kilwinning is on the market for offers in the region of £425,000.

Sellers are prepared to take a £200k hit after buying the property for £625k in 2016.

The hotel is listed on property website Rightmove by agents CDLH Leisure & Hospitality Surveyors.

Dalgarven hit the headlines last week when it shut its doors unexpectedly for alleged 'staffing' issues.

Craig Green and his fiancé Cheryl McPike told the Irvine Herald how the shock move turned their wedding dream into a nightmare - three weeks before their big day.

The venue could still have a future however if a buyer can be found.

The online listing for the 10-bedroom hotel boasts an ‘attractive conservatory restaurant’, landscapes gardens overlooking the river and two beer gardens.

There is a premises licence in place which will be transferred to the new owners.

The fixer-upper property includes a ‘traditional style’ bar which features a stone fireplace and exposed timber ceiling beams which can seat 30 people.

There is also a fully fitted commercial kitchen, ancillary storage, beer chill room and car park.

The listing goes on to state: “The Dalgarven House Hotel provides a great opportunity for an owner operator to purchase a great hotel premises with bar, restaurant and function suite.

“Historically, the Dalgarven House Hotel was a popular function and wedding venue and, in our opinion, there is great opportunity for a new operator to develop a good level of sales from mixed income streams.

"Under new operation and with refurbishment, the subjects could be one of the best function and licensed businesses in the area.

“The subjects are on a good-sized site with development potential. Historically, planning consent has been approved for alterations and an extension to form a further dining room, two additional bedrooms and the erection of a manager's dwelling house.”
