Construction Scotland appoints industry veteran to leadership group

Trade body Construction Scotland has expanded its industry leadership group (ILG) by appointing Balfour Beatty Scotland and Ireland managing director Hector MacAulay.

MacAulay has had a three-decade career in the civil engineering and construction sectors, having worked on a wide variety of projects around the UK and Ireland.

It added that, under his leadership, Balfour Beatty is currently undertaking the redevelopment of Glasgow Queen Street Station, the flagship Edinburgh Futures Institute for the University of Edinburgh and dualling the A9 north of Perth.

MacAulay is also a member of Balfour Beatty’s executive leadership team for the UK construction services arm of Balfour Beatty plc, the international infrastructure group.

He said: “A strong and vibrant construction sector is essential to underpin the economic development of Scotland, delivering prosperity, sustainable economic growth and employment."

Ken Gillespie, chair of Construction Scotland’s ILG added that MacAulay’s appointment demonstrates its commitment to delivering the strategy it launched in November last year.

It has six key areas of focus: ending lowest cost procurement; increasing skills and diversity; improving quality; supporting reform of planning and building regulations; improving productivity and profitability and facilitating sector growth.
