Conservative General Election leaflet mistakes Wells in Somerset for Wales

Hundreds of leaflets have been sent out by the Conservative Party in Wells containing details about its manifesto for Wales.

The printing error meant that constituents received details of the party's plans for Wales - rather than the Somerset city.

The mistake has been mocked by several voters on social media.

The newspaper-style leaflet comprised of a series of "articles" focusing on local schools and hospitals.

However, the stories were not about public services in Wells, but about improvements set for Wales.

While the front page was titled "The Wells Constituency Future", inside headings declared there was "More money for our Welsh NHS."

An article titled "Investing In Our Future", detailed how the Welsh Government would boost spending across Wales - including a new Swansea Parkway station.

Conservative Candidate for Wells, James Heappey, responded to criticism on social media and said the misprint was "embarrassing."

He added: "It’s one of ours. Produced by party centrally - clearly wrong content on centre pages.

"Same things happened in other constituencies too. Don’t know whether fault was with party HQ or printer but embarrassing either way."

Constituents on social media weren't happy about the error, with many claiming that this showed that the party simply "didn't care".

A Conservative Party spokesman later blamed a "printing error" by an "external supplier".

No details of how the gaffe happened have been revealed - although some have speculated whether Wells was misheard as Wales at some point during the production process.
