Conor McGregor UFC news: Notorious 'confirms' MMA return after 'moving forward' from Twitter row

Conor McGregor has appeared to confirm his return to MMA following a Twitter feud with UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

McGregor last week sensationally announced his "retirement" from the sport after a 25-fight professional career.

The Dubliner faced a backlash on Wednesday after posting a tweet directed at Nurmagomedov which read: "Your wife's a towel mate."

Two pictures were then shared of her wearing a traditional Islamic face veil, but were later removed.

The messages were branded on social media as "racist" and "Islamophobic", as Nurmagomedov is a muslim.

But after UFC president Dana White stepped in, saying the Twitter exchange had reached an "unacceptable" level, McGregor took to social media with a more positive message.

In his latest tweet, former two-weight UFC champion said: "I want to move forward, with my fans of all faiths and all backgrounds.

"All faiths challenge us to be our best selves. It is one world and one for all."

And McGregor went on to hint that his retirement will be short lived, by saying: "Now see you in the Octagon."

During the late night tirade on Wednesday, McGregor's account also took aim at the Russian's brother, tweeting "I smacked your brother around and took a s*** in this hat".

There's bad blood between the fighters after Khabib defeated McGregor in Las Vegas last October.

The Twitter war had escalated to such levels that UFC president White had to step in on Wednesday, saying: "I am aware of the recent social media exchange between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor.

"The ongoing situation has escalated to a level that is unacceptable. As such, we are taking the necessary steps to reach out to both athlete camps and this situation is being addressed by all parties internally."
