Conor McGregor’s Twitter dig at Khabib fuels rematch rumours - with UFC keen on megafight

Conor McGregor’s Twitter jibes have stepped up rematch rumours with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Following McGregor’s submission to the UFC champion in 2018, a brawl infamously broke out between the Dubliner and Khabib’s cousin Abubakar Nurmagomedov.

A screenshot of “The Notorious” landing a punch on Abubakar was posted on Twitter, with McGregor replying simply with “Peach”.

Rumours of a rematch between Khabib and McGregor have ramped up since the Crumlin fighter’s 40-second disposal of Donald Cerrone in January, although the Russian brawler has dismissed the idea.

Coach Javier Mendez addressed rumours, expecting a rematch to be offered after Tony Ferguson’s bout with Khabib in April.

“The UFC wants that fight to happen, the UFC will put the fight on the table,” Mendez claimed.

Asked whether Khabib would accept the fight however, he said: "What Khabib will do, I don’t know because his mind’s not there where he wants to think about this fight.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father weighed in to Russian media, calling for a payday of $100 million for the fight.

"The day after the fight against Ferguson, give us that amount and then why not hold a rematch?

"I don’t know, maybe Dana White wants to arrange it, he needs that fight."
