Conor McGregor heaps praise on 'incredibly impressive' Ian Garry after latest UFC win

Conor McGregor was thoroughly impressed by Ian Garry's showing over the weekend at UFC 276.

The unbeaten 24-year-old put on his best display since joining MMA's premier promotion as he outclassed what was supposed to be a step up in competition in Gabe Green.

The welterweight secured a unanimous points decision with a smooth striking clinic.

And reflecting on Garry's third UFC bout, McGregor beamed: "Ian Garry was incredibly impressive this weekend. Fully immersed in it all.

"Enjoying every second. Willingness to engage/commit.

"The potential for another “future” Irish MMA UFC champion rose by a real nice margin this weekend. Congrats Ian, keep going brother!"

Garry was of course delighted to get such an emphatic public shout-out from the man who popularised MMA in this country.

He replied: "Thank You! The Takeover part 2 continues to grow, I cannot wait for your return. Let’s bring the UFC back to Dublin. It’s Inevitable."

He had also broached that idea after his dominant win on Saturday night/Sunday morning, saying: “I don’t see any reason to stop. I’m going to be continuing to grow and better myself in every regard.

“I want the UFC back in Dublin. I want to bring the UFC back to Dublin. The Irish fans deserve it, they have been absolutely amazing for me.

“I want to bring it back for them, they deserve it. They are the loudest fans in the world, and we have done so much in the sport that I think we deserve it at this stage.

“I’d like to bring it back.”

Other well-known fighters such as Derek Brunson and Charles Rosa also hailed his performance against Green.

Brunson wrote: "Nice showing by Ian Garry. Ireland you have yourself a good 1!"

Rosa commented: "Ian Garry is a sniper. Great fight."

While another Twitter user said: "Ian Garry is just a orthodox McGregor, I’ve never seen striking like this. So powerful. So precise. Clinch game unreal. Unparalleled. He’s welterweight champ by 2023 easily."

Lastly, someone else tweeted: "Ian Garry is far from a finished product, but he's showing good development. Give him some time and he's going to be a problem. A lot to build on."
