Conor McGregor gets in a row with new UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira

Conor McGregor has called out Charles Oliveira after he defeated Michael Chandler to become the new lightweight UFC champion.

The Brazilian extended his winning streak to nine in Texas with a dramatic second round TKO over the three-time Bellator champion.

And not long after the fight had been concluded McGregor took to social media to provide his views.

McGregor tweeted: "Congrats to Oliveira on becoming the 11th UFC lightweight champion. Wonder who Twelve is..."

Oliveira reacted to this provocation by responding to The Notorious via reporters, saying: "Conor, since you're so tough, first beat Dustin, then come to Brazil and I'll put you on your a**.

"He's just one of these guys that talks a lot. He needs to beat Dustin first."

Dustin Poirier himself, meanwhile, sent a classy message, saying: "Congratulations @CharlesDoBronxs, you earned that the hard way! Head up @MikeChandlerMMA highest of the highs and lowest of the lows."

Speaking after the clash Oliveira said: "I told you I was going to knock him out, and I came and knocked him out.

"I'm proving to everybody, I'm the lion of lions.

"Michael, you're a great champion, but today was my day. Michael said I couldn't take pressure, and he hit, hit, hit. And I'm still here. Here's the belt!"

Reacting to his defeat, meanwhile, Chandler said: "We saw one of the toughest dudes on the planet come back from some adversity - Charles Oliveira is the real deal.

"I take nothing away from him. I will be back. I promise you I'm going to win that UFC strap within the next 12 months. This was a great opportunity. I thank the UFC for this opportunity.

"Charles Oliveira showed how he's a consummate professional. He's showed up for the last 10, 11 years here inside the UFC octagon.

"We'll get this one back. We're gonna run this one back, eventually."
