Conor McGregor forced to pull out of charity wheelchair fight against impressionist

Conor McGregor has been forced to withdraw from his wheelchair boxing match with impressionist Al Foran in September.

The Irishman was set to take part in a charity event on behalf of the Irish Wheelchair Association on September 11, just two months after his UFC 267 defeat to Dustin Poirier.

But the 33-year-old has now been forced to withdraw from his latest exploit after his recovery from a broken leg injury continues.

McGregor confirmed his withdrawal from the event, citing his injury as the reason but has promised to do all he can to help raise awareness and funding for the charity.

"Guys, the September date is too early for me. I am still in recovery. My docs/physical therapy team out here advice me to stay," McGregor posted on his Twitter account.

"I reckon late October at earliest. But maybe November/December too. It is hard to say at this time a concrete date. But I’m in! Wait for me please!"

"Hahaha quality! Give me time guys, I’m in," McGregor also continued when commenting on the official poster.

"Just need to focus on this recovery for the next while first before I can commit to a date! Have some cool things planned for event tho."

The 33-year-old's defeat to trilogy rival Poirier marked his third defeat in his last four professional bouts, also leaving with a leg injury that looks set to hamper his near future with up to a year out of action expected.

With an uncertain future ahead, several potential moves have been discussed for his future, with YouTube star Jake Paul claiming that a fight deal for the pair to clash is in negotiations, while Brazilian UFC lightweight Rafael Dos Anjos has also called the Irishman out.

McGregor has since delivered an injury update from a mobility scooter confirming his period out of action, and confirming that he had suffered 'stress fractures' in his training camp ahead of his previous bout.

"I had a couple of ups and downs the past few days," he admitted on a video update on Instagram.

"I know there's gonna be ups and downs on this journey that I'm gonna be on.

"I had stress fractures in my leg going into that cage.

"I have trouble with that ankle anyway."

"I know there's gonna be ups and downs on this journey that I'm gonna be on," he said, adding that he has "accepted it" and is "motivated to keep going."

McGregor has been seen making light of his injury posing for a new advert for his whiskey brand Proper Twelve, since purchasing a £2.6 million Lamborghini yacht after his defeat, paying homage to his company in the process.

His SBG Ireland teammate Brian Moore has backed McGregor to return 'stronger than ever' when he makes his comeback, in addition to Artem Lobov who believes he will make a successful recovery from a big injury.
