Conor Coady and Everton position clear after Bruno Lage sacking by Wolves

Everton face no threat of losing Conor Coady through the upheaval underway at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Coady, who scored his first goal for the Blues in Saturday's 2-1 win at Southampton, joined from the Midlands club on a season-long loan signed off in August. His parent club sacked manager Bruno Lage on Sunday after a poor start to the season.

But while his replacement may look to make changes to the set up at Molineux, they will not have the opportunity to look to Coady as there is no recall clause in the deal that brought him to Goodison Park. That deal also includes an option for Everton to sign the 29-year-old permanently.

Coady has had an instant impact at Everton, even captaining the side for the win over West Ham United. He has played every Premier League game since his arrival - helping the club to the best defensive record in the league at this stage of the campaign. His goal marked a turning point at St Mary's, laying the foundation for the comeback victory secured minutes later when Dwight McNeil rifled in from a tight angle.

While the win extended Everton's unbeaten run to six league games, Wolves have endured a dismal start to the season that continued with defeat to West Ham on Saturday evening. Lage was dismissed on Sunday, club chairman Jeff Shi explaining: “Bruno is an excellent coach, a hardworking and dedicated manager, and a warm, wise and honest man.

“He and his staff have been a pleasure to work with throughout their time at Wolves, so it is with much sadness that we have had to make what has been a difficult decision. I honestly have no doubts about Bruno’s ability, and I’m sure he will succeed elsewhere, however the team’s form and performances over the last few months mean that we have no choice but to act."

Lage had overseen Coady's departure from the club he captained last season, a move that surprised many, including Wolves supporters. The talismanic centre=back was left out of the side's starting line-up for opening game of the season and his exit was sanctioned by Shi, who later hailed Coady's time with the club but added it was "important for me to look at the wider picture and make difficult decisions".

Coaches Steve Davis and James Collins have been handed the task of leading Wolves during the search for Lage's replacement but the terms of that deal mean whoever takes control will not be able to turn to the England international to help kick-start a revival. And the option to buy means it will be up to Everton what happens at the end of the season.
