Former Rangers star Alan Hutton has claimed Connor Goldson might not be telling the full story on his protracted Rangers contract talks.
The 28-year-old has been locked in discussions with the Premiership champions but no deal has been agreed upon with the Englishman nearing the final six months of his Ibrox deal.
Goldson will be free to talk to other clubs in January and any potential departure would be a real blow for a side with real designs of playing in the Champions League next season.
Steven Gerrard admitted on Friday he didn't have an update and Hutton reckons talks will be going in behind the scenes despite the former Brighton man's claim to contrary last week.
Speaking to Football Insider, the ex- Rangers star said: “I’m sure he has spoken to his agent a lot, if I’m honest.
“One of those ones where you say you’ve not spoken to anybody but you’ve actually spoken to them every day.
“There’ll be discussions going on in the background, I’m pretty sure. Connor Goldson with his agent and his agent with the club.
“Whatever the holdup is, I don’t know. We’re obviously not privy to what’s going on but it seems like there has been a contract offer.
“Maybe one of the parties isn’t happy with that and they’re toing and froing until they meet in the middle.
“Hopefully they can get it sorted. I do think that you can’t play your best football when things like this are hanging over your head.
“You want to put that to bed and then concentrate. Hopefully, that can happen in the next couple of weeks.”
