Congress slams Karnataka’s Bommai government over contractor’s death

The Congress on Tuesday launched an all-out attack against the BJP-led government in Karnataka following the death of a contractor who levelled corruption charges against a Karnataka Minister.

The contractor Santosh Patil, who allegedly died by suicide, had earlier accused Karnataka Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister K.S. Eshwarappa of demanding 40% commission on the work executed by him. The Minister not only rejected his allegations but also filed a defamation suit against him.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “BJP’s 40% Commission Govt in Karnataka has claimed the life of their own Karyakarta. The victim’s pleas to the PM went unanswered. PM & CM are complicit.”

‘Arrest Minister’

Congress General Secretary (Communications) Randeep Surjewala said the stench of corruption in 40% commission Bommai government in Karnataka had reached its nadir. Even BJP workers were not spared, he said. The party had demanded that Mr. Eshwarappa be booked for murder and corruption and arrested. The party also demanded his immediate dismissal and an independent probe. “Otherwise, it will be clear that CM Bommai is complicit in the alleged corruption,” Mr. Surjewala tweeted.

He also exhorted the BJP workers in the State to speak up. Mr. Surjewala tweeted, “Dear Friends of the BJP, At least show guts to speak for a fellow BJP worker ! The wife of BJP Worker, Late Santosh Patil is crying & telling how she had to sell her jewellery to fulfil the insatiable lust of Corruption. Will Shri J.P. Nadda speak up?”
