Confirmed: West Ham complete deal as fan favourite signs contract extension

West Ham midfielder Robert Snodgrass has penned a new one-year contract extension with the club after forcing his way into Manuel Pellegrini's team last season.

The Scotsman has signed a new deal with the Hammers until the end of the 2020/21 season and it also contains an option to extend it for a further 12 months.

Snodgrass was seemingly on his way out of the club 12 months ago having returned from a season-long loan at Aston Villa, who wanted to buy him permanently but couldn't meet the asking price. Snodgrass had been frozen out of the club by former manager Slaven Bilic, who sent him packing to the Midlands just six months after signing for more than £10m from Hull City.

However, on his return to the capital, the Scotland international forced his way into Manuel Pellegrini's first team in 2018/19, making 38 appearances in total, scoring four goals and bagging nine assists across the campaign.

The Hammers midfielder said of his new deal: "I’m delighted to commit my future to this great club. Sometimes you get a chance to play for that one club that’s special, going through that special time, and I believe at this moment that’s West Ham.

"We’re trying our best to keep progressing and moving forward.

"They're building something special here. For me, it’s about trying to build on last season. Trying to get more goals and more assists and trying to be the best teammate I can.

"I will just take it one per cent at a time and do the best I possibly can. The drive for me is to be a better player; to listen and learn. We’re constantly learning, and the manager and his staff will want to implement more ideas, new ideas. To be part of that going forward, I’m delighted."

Snodgrass became a fan favourite in east London last season for his efforts on the pitch where he covered an average of 11.7km per appearance but more for turning his career with the club around having seemingly had no future previously.
