Confirmed datamine suggests Hi-Fi Rush expanding to PS5 and Nintendo Switch

The gaming world has been abuzz with rumors lately, and it seems like one of those rumors is about to become a reality. While Microsoft never officially announced that Hi-Fi Rush, their highly acclaimed game, would expand beyond the Xbox and Game Pass platforms, a recent datamine has all but confirmed its arrival on rival systems such as the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.

The evidence for this expansion comes from the discovery of three different texture files depicting upcoming shirts. Among them, there is a blue shirt with the phrase 'I'm here baby!', a red one saying 'Rock out anywhere!', and even a green shirt specifically for the original Xbox. While the blue shirt's reference to the PlayStation is still uncertain, the mention of 'rocking out anywhere' clearly indicates a connection to the Switch's portable nature.

Although Microsoft has not made an official announcement about this expansion yet, the existence of these files is hard to ignore. It's time to accept that Hi-Fi Rush’s arrival on other platforms is imminent.

This development will undoubtedly reopen the ongoing debate surrounding the decision to bring Xbox exclusives to other gaming systems. Hi-Fi Rush was the most awarded and nominated game in 2023, surprising players with its successful shadow drop. However, now the question arises as to whether bringing the game to other platforms can somehow 'devalue' it. While Microsoft's 'play Xbox games anywhere' motto has been consistent, the idea of PlayStation or Nintendo making their exclusive titles available to their rivals seems highly unlikely.

Additionally, there is another rumor floating around suggesting that Microsoft might also bring their popular game, Sea of Thieves, to PlayStation and/or Nintendo. As a multiplayer-focused game, expanding the player base could be a smart move. Furthermore, considering the age of Sea of Thieves, the philosophical issue surrounding its exclusivity is not as prominent. We have seen examples of this kind of cross-platform collaboration before, with Bungie's Destiny 2 being available on multiple platforms.

However, the question remains: where should the line be drawn? As a thought experiment, there are whispers that even Halo Infinite's free-to-play multiplayer mode could potentially make its way to the PlayStation. While one might argue for its viability based on the game's age and multiplayer nature, the idea of seeing Master Chief on a PlayStation console seems quite controversial. Ultimately, this decision rests in the hands of Microsoft.

For now, the only thing that seems certain is the upcoming expansion of Hi-Fi Rush. An official announcement is expected soon, and it's inevitable that the debate surrounding Xbox's exclusivity policies will heat up once again.
