Confirmed Arsenal team vs Newcastle as Martin Odegaard starts and Alexandre Lacazette dropped

Martin Odegaard has returned to the Arsenal starting lineup for the game against Newcastle United on Saturday lunchtime.

The Norwegian replaces Alexandre Lacazette in the lineup, in what is the only change from the 4-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield last time out.

Kieran Tierney, who recently returned from injury is named on the bench once more after being in reserve for that Liverpool clash.

Nuno Tavares keeps his place in the starting XI which is otherwise unchanged, with Aaron Ramsdale between the sticks and defenders Takehiro Tomiyasu, Gabriel and Ben White starting.

Thomas Partey, who dropped a team news hint ahead of kick-off, and Sambi Lokonga start alongside each other in central midfield, while Ødegaard comes into the team at the expense of Lacazette.

Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka and captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang make up the attacking contingent for the game at Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta has a strong substitutes bench to choose from with Lacazette, Nicolas Pepe and Gabriel Martinelli among the attackers he’s able to call upon during the game.

Meanwhile, former Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock starts against his old club for the first time since joining Newcastle in a £25million deal.

Magpies boss Eddie Howe will be in the dugout for the first time after recovering from COVID-19.

Arsenal XI vs Newcastle: Ramsdale, Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Tierney, Partey, Lokonga, Ødegaard, Smith Rowe, Saka, Aubameyang.
