Coneygree has been given the green light to run in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury on Saturday.
The 2015 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner had spread a plate last week which put his Hennessy participation in doubt but he worked on Sunday morning and connections were satisfied that all is well with the son of Karinga Bay.
Sarah Bradstock, the wife of Coneygree’s trainer Mark, told the Racing Post, “It is all systems go” after completing his first piece of work since the setback.
Bradstock, who partnered the eight-year-old in his work, explained: “It is all very good news. He worked incredibly well actually, which is wonderful considering at the beginning of last week he was hopping lame. So it’s all systems go.
“He will school on Tuesday with Nico [de Boinville]. Obviously Nico has to reckon that he feels great and then we will be there.”
Coneygree, who improved by 25 pounds last season according to the official handicapper, is due to shoulder top weight in the handicap over three miles and two furlongs at the Berkshire course, giving weight to all his rivals.
Bookmaker reaction to the positive news was to trim his Hennessy odds to 4-1 from 9-2.
