Competition ramps up for Nottingham Forest-linked striker as summer transfer looks on the cards

Another club have reportedly joined the race for Nottingham Forest-linked striker Jerry Yates.

The 24-year-old has been in red-hot form for Blackpool this season, and is said to have put a number of sides on alert as a result - including the Reds.

Blackburn Rovers and Bristol City have also been credited with an interest in Yates, and now The72 claim Scottish giants Rangers have joined his list of admirers.

The report states Steven Gerrard’s side “are considering Yates as part of their summer transfer haul” - along with former Forest star Britt Assombalonga.

Reds boss Chris Hughton is looking to strengthen his attacking resources in the summer as he targets a top six challenge next time around.

Forest have struggled to find the back of the net this term, with Lewis Grabban and Lyle Taylor the club’s joint top scorers on four league goals apiece.

Yates has bagged 20 in 45 appearances in all competitions for Blackpool, but it is said the chances of him remaining with the Seasiders beyond the summer “are very slim”.

He has previously been valued at £2m, although manager Neil Critchley has said there is no intention of selling him.

“If someone is doing well in a certain division, then it will attract interest from teams above you,” he said last month.

“That would be the same if it was a League Two team – League One teams would be looking at the best players in that division.

“Jerry is doing well, playing well and scoring goals, so I’d expect him to be attracting attention from teams above, that’s normal.

“In fact, I hope he does attract attention because that means he’s doing well for us.

“Jerry signed a long-term contract here, so he’s under contract with us. He’s with us and we’re not looking for him to move any time in the near future.”

After coming through the ranks at Rotherham United, the forward left the New York Stadium last summer, signing a three-year deal at Blackpool with the option to extend by a further 12 months.
