Commanders hire a new chief financial officer

The Washington Commanders recently made the first executive hire of the Josh Harris era, naming Craig Fischer as the new chief financial officer, per Nicki Jhabvala and Mark Maske of The Washington Post.

The Commanders had been interviewing candidates for months to fill the void left by Greg Resh, who left the organization last September after less than two years with the organization.

Fischer began his role with Washington in July once the NFL approved Josh Harris and his partners as the new owners of the Commanders. It’s unclear how much of a role Harris played in the hiring, but considering Fischer was officially hired after the sale, one would assume he approved the move.

Fischer had previously served as the CFO of the Hemisphere Media Group, Inc., a Spanish-language media group based out of Florida, since 2013. Before his time at Hemisphere, Fischer was a partner at InterMedia Partners for nine years.

Fischer also spent time at the YES Network and at Goldman Sachs.

Fischer wasn’t Washington’s only new hire. The Commanders also hired Thad Sheely as an adviser on real estate and stadium matters. This is also big news, as Sheely has been involved in sports real estate for over 20 years, involved with major projects, such as MetLife Stadium [New York Giants & Jets], State Farm Arena [Atlanta Hawks] and others.

Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports first had the news on Sheely’s hiring.

Sheely will be instrumental in Washington’s search for a new stadium.
