Jason Manford was left terrified after his plane was caught in the chaos of Storm Amy, forcing him to cancel his scheduled gig when the flight was rerouted.

The comedian and presenter, 44, took to social media to share the moment his British Airways flight to Belfast was unable to land due to dangerously high winds from the storm.

Jason had departed from London and was en route to Belfast for a gig.

But just before takeoff, he revealed there was already a sense of apprehension onboard when a passenger suddenly demanded to leave the flight.

Jason wrote on his Instagram: “On a very delayed flight to Belfast and just after safety demo a woman has told crew she wants to get off!

“We’re literally about to taxi and take off and she just doesn’t fancy it!

“I’ve seen too much Final Destination to not take this seriously!”

As it turns out, her instincts were right. In a later video, Jason shared that the plane had been unable to land in Belfast and was instead rerouted to Manchester Airport, which happens to be just 15 minutes from his home.

“I am currently 15 minutes from my house,” he laughed.

“I’m wondering if I could fake a panic, or kick off like that woman did in London. Don’t fancy it,” he joked.

Jason’s gig in Belfast was cancelled as a result of the storm and the following message informed fans.

“Due to extreme weather conditions caused by Storm Amy, the British Airways plane that Jason Manford was flying on this afternoon could not land in Belfast and was rerouted to Manchester. This unfortunately means that Jason’s show tonight has been cancelled.

“Please hold onto your tickets and you will be contacted next week with the date for the rescheduled show.

“On behalf of Jason, we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”

The deadly storm has caused widespread disruption across the UK, with thousands of homes facing power outages.

Railways have been disrupted and "risk to life" warnings have been issued over up to 100mph gusts of wind in some areas.

Irish police said a man had died in a "weather-related" incident in the Letterkenny area of County Donegal, Republic of Ireland shortly after 4.15pm on Friday.
