Come Dine With Me's Dave Lamb 'horrifies' Geordie viewers with pronunciation of Prudhoe

Come Dine With Me narrator Dave Lamb came under fire from Geordie viewers who tuned into a North East based episode of the show on Monday.

As reported by ChronicleLive last month, three well known local restaurants battled it out in a new instalment of Come Dine With Me: The Professionals. Competing against each other were Namaste from Sunniside, North Shields’ Pigalo’s and Prudhoe based chippy Balls. And it was Dave’s pronunciation of Prudhoe which causes a stir online as locals watched at home.

Dave exaggerated the ‘u’ as ‘ooo,’calling it 'Proo-doh,' in stark contrast to how residents say it. Reacting on Twitter, one viewer posted: "Guy on Come dine with me. Never heard such an odd way of saying Prudhoe. And believe me I've heard some belters.”

Equally taken aback by what they heard, a second tweeted: “Watching Come Dine With Me 'The Professionals' in Newcastle / Northumberland and @Therealdavelamb has just pronounced Prudhoe "Proodhoe". It's "Prudah"

“Every Northumbrian just had a tiny violent reaction.”

Among the others who reacted to Dave’s pronunciation, a third commented: “Come Dine With Me voiceover man, it's not pronounced Prood-hoe for Prudhoe. I love it when not Geordies say Geordie place names," with a fourth asked: "Where's Balls of Prue doh?"

After a hotly contested battle between the three restaurants, it was Balls who triumphed after the scores were delivered. And the result generated quite a response on social media. In reference to a certain Midlands fish and chip shop becoming a viral sensation, one fan wrote: "I hope Balls of Prudhoe becomes the new Bingley Mega Chippy," while another posted: "Congratulations #ProudOfPrudhoe."
