Colts waiting to see severity of Jacoby Brissett’s knee injury

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Jacoby Brissett suffered a knee injury during the second quarter of the team’s 26-24 loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday and didn’t return to the contest.

Head coach Frank Reich explained following the game that he didn’t believe Brissett was healthy enough to go back into the game even after the quarterback tested it out on the sideline.

They don’t know how severe the injury is, but Reich believes it is likely an MCL sprain. They are waiting to get the results of more tests.

Brissett attempted just five passes on the day before the injury. It happened when left guard Quenton Nelson got beat on a block and was pushed back into Brissett. He first stepped on his quarterback’s ankle and then fell back onto Brissett’s knee—bending it awkwardly.

If Brissett can’t go for the Week 10 home game against the Miami Dolphins, it will be Brian Hoyer as the starter and likely Chad Kelly being called up from the practice squad to be the backup.
