Colts considering ‘about 8’ prospects for No. 26 pick

The Indianapolis Colts are just a few days away from the beginning of the 2019 NFL Draft in which they will be looking to add some premier talent to the roster.

Holding the No. 26 pick in the first round, there are several options the Colts can explore. There are players that won’t get that deep in the first round, but general manager Chris Ballard said they have a cluster of prospects they believe will be available when they are on the clock.

Ballard also added in the press conference on Monday that the players in that cluster of consideration are at mostly different positions. There is a chance that some candidates won’t be there, but Ballard expects at least one to be available.

It won’t be clear which prospects will be available until the night of the draft. Even when the Colts are on the clock, the possibility of trading back is strong. This is especially true when Ballard discussed the difference of players in the first round and on Day 2.

Ballard doesn’t feel the strength at the top of the class is as strong in year’s past, which could give the Colts the opportunity to add more picks either in this year’s draft or for 2020.

It isn’t clear which prospects are in that cluster of candidates, but the Colts feel that one of them will be there. If not, they will likely have the option to move back and add more selections.
