Colts’ Andrew Luck limited in first training camp practice

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck missed the entire spring workouts due to a calf injury, but made his return Thursday when the team fired up its first practice of training camp at the Grand Park Sports Complex.

While Luck made his return to the field and participated in individual drills, he was limited during the team portion of practice. Backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett took over the first-team reps.

This was to be expected as general manager Chris Ballard noted the team would take it slowly for the first week or so to make sure Luck—and other players coming off of injuries—don’t rush back into another injury.

“Yeah, just working him back in,” Ballard told reporters Wednesday. “He didn’t do anything this spring but making sure we got – we don’t want him to get out there and have a setback.”

The 29-year-old quarterback sat out the entirety of the team workouts during the spring due to a calf injury he suffered while working out. With training camp having started, he’s expected to be a bit limited for the first week or so simply as a precaution.
