Colts’ Andrew Luck (calf) going through more challenging workouts

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck has been off the practice field for roughly a week after suffering a setback with a calf strain that has been lingering for the better part of the last three months.

As Luck looks to get back onto the field, the Colts are being extremely cautious with their franchise quarterback. Head coach Frank Reich gave a bit of an update to reporters on Tuesday following the training camp practice session.

Reich said Luck is going through more rigorous and challenging workouts while testing the calf a bit further as well. The second-year head coach believes the progress is going well.

Luck will be held out of the preseason opener against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday, and it isn’t clear if the Colts will feel comfortable enough in letting him play at all this preseason.

The 29-year-old quarterback is also being very cautious as to not push the calf injury—which he first suffered in May—too quickly.

The Colts are still optimistic about Luck’s outlook for the season, and it appears he’s making progress in his recovery from a calf injury that has been lingering far too long.
