Collin Morikawa’s backwards chip into the water at Augusta is a feeling we all know too well

Watching the Masters this weekend, I’ve been continually blown away by just how incredibly good these professional golfers are. They routinely hit two-hundred-yard iron shots which land in the center of the green. They regularly make twice-breaking putts on greens us mortals wouldn’t have a chance on.

Yet, every once in a while, they show us that they are in fact human beings. And in those moments, we cheer. For they, for however brief a time, are one of us.

This happened to Collin Morikawa on the 11th hole at Augusta National on Sunday, when the PGA Championship winner was forced to hit a tough, uphill shot out of rough, just above a body of water.

Here it is:

The ball went straight up in the air, bounced sadly once, then trickled back down in the water.

Amateur golfers around the world smiled, and nodded. Welcome to our world, Collin.
