NCAA Football Free Predictions

*No. 11 Utah has defeated its rival BYU over the last three showdowns by a combined 15 points. BYU returns 17 starters from a 7-6 squad that welcomes back QB Zach Wilson, who set a BYU-record going 18-for-18 with 317 yards passing and four TDs in the game, finishing with an outstanding 12/3 touchdown-interception ratio as a freshman. Lay the points with Utah, who has a chance to win their first Pac-12 title because they are loaded this season.
*Colorado has beaten Colorado State won four straight times in the series and covered three consecutive times against its rival. Senior QB Steven Montez and star WR Laviska Shenault return for new head coach Mel Tucker. On the other side, the Rams struggled defensively last season, finishing 117th in the nation with 36.8 points per game allowed. Mike Bobo’s squad will need more production from junior QB Colin HIll, who threw for 1,387 yards with seven TDs and seven picks. Take the points in this one as the Rams will make this closer than last season’s blowout, thanks to some improvements on both sides of the ball.
*Virginia Tech travels to New England to face Boston College in a key early ACC showdown. The Eagles have a strong veteran backfield of QB Anthony Brown and RB A.J. Dillon, while the Hokies are trying to piece together the defense coming off a disappointing season. At home, take the points as BC will cover.
*It’s the Academic Bowl as No 25 Stanford hosts Northwestern. Pat Fitzgerald’s Wildcats return loaded on both sides of the ball, at least when it comes to experience. Now the spotlight is on Clemson transfer Hunter Johnson to be the new star under center … maybe. An official starter hasn’t been named yet.
The Stanford offensive line is young, but the real issue is overall experience, with just four returning starters on offense and five on defense. Both teams are well-coached, but the inexperience of Stanford at linebacker and on the offensive line will be its downfall. Take the points with Northwestern.
*The big game is in Arlington as the Pac-12 desperately needs a big win – Oregon has most of the pressure on its shoulders against Auburn. However, the heat is turning on Gus Malzahn, who will use a true freshman in Bo Nix, the son of former Tiger QB Patrick Nix against NFL star prospect Justin Herbert on the other side. It’s tough to go against a good SEC team but take the points with Herbert and the better squad.
