Collagen Solutions says orders are not down as it bounces back from revenue warning

Life sciences firm Collagen Solutions says demand for its products has not declined during coronavirus despite the widespread cancellation of non-urgent surgical operations.

The Glasgow-based firm's announcement comes after it warned revenue for the year to 31 March 2020 could be hit by the impact of the pandemic.

Collagen Solutions, which turns animal byproducts into tissue for surgical operations and medical treatments, and cosmetic procedures such as dermal fillers, said revenue for the financial year so far was in line with expectations.

It said it had encountered "operational challenges with logistics and abattoir production in Australia and New Zealand" and capacity constraints at its Glasgow plant.

But revenue of £3.3 million for the first two months of the financial year had been the equivalent of 82% of forecast revenue for the previous year.

In a trading update, the firm today announced the deadline for its 2020 accounts to be filed had been extended to 31 December.

Chief executive Jamal Rushdy said: "I remain extremely proud of the resilience and response of our team members during the Covid-19 crisis, and grateful for the continued support and partnership of our customers.

"While we have started the year positively, we are prepared that the current financial year might have challenges driven by external events. We will retain our relentless focus on delivering for our customers while also ensuring the health and safety of our employees, their families, and our communities.

"In particular, we are encouraged by our current order book and strength of demand during the first two months of the financial year and are confident we can generate value to shareholders over the medium term."
