Colin Cowherd says the Seahawks need to go get a quarterback

The Seahawks have enjoyed above-average quarterback play for most of the last 20 years. There are some small exceptions, like the layover for Tarvaris Jackson between the Matt Hasselbeck and Russell Wilson eras, or Wilson’s last season as Seattle’s starter. However, for the most part they’ve gotten better results than the vast majority of NFL teams during that time. In fact, aside from the Packers nobody has gotten better results consistently. Geno Smith has continued that rare run of success, but that won’t stop some folks from pounding the table for someone else.

Watch Colin Cowherd opine on Seattle’s situation, and urge them to go out and get another quarterback.

It’s a bold take, especially considering that Smith just had the best game of his career in front of a national audience going against a top-five defense while facing pressure on over 50% of his dropbacks. Smith also has an extremely team-friendly contract, which makes him a strong value at QB even if his numbers are down this year.

Right now we’re feeling that Smith is pretty far from this team’s biggest problem and they’d be better served to boost their roster elsewhere – or maybe make some changes to Pete Carroll’s staff.

Then again, Smith is now 33 years old and it doesn’t seem like this team is going back to the Super Bowl anytime soon – no matter how well he plays. An argument can be made for rebooting at quarterback and trying to build up the offensive and defensive lines in order to catch up with the likes of the Cowboys, Eagles, Ravens and 49ers.
