Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman had Ben Askren hilariously apologizing for his 5-second loss

Who could forget about Ben Askren? The UFC welterweight fighter shocked the fighting world when he suffered his first professional loss against Jorge Masvidal by way of a five-second knockout.

That loss, though, essentially stalled Askren’s chances at competing for the welterweight division belt in the near future. It did, however, open the door for Colby Covington.

Covington easily defeated Robbie Lawler in Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 5 (and made tasteless post-fight remarks), which seemingly set up a bout with current welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.

Usman was serving as a guest analyst on ESPN at the Prudential Center, and predictably, that arrangement led to the two welterweight fighters exchanging verbal blows on the ESPN set. (Warning: NSFW language)

That exchange had Askren really regretting his five-second knockout loss. Because now, the rest of the world was subjected to the Covington and Usman trash talk.

Askren took to Twitter to “apologize” for that.

Well played.

Askren may have suffered one of the more embarrassing losses in UFC history, but his Twitter game since has remained strong.
