Coimbatore couple booked for killing woman; on the run

COIMBATORE: Police have formed three special teams to nab an RS Puram-based couple, who allegedly murdered a 37-year-old woman. Police identified the deceased as Malar, daughter of Arumugam of Erode district. An employee of Ganapathy Cements and Tiles shop at Bhavani, Malar, a divorcee, was staying with her parents.

On Sunday morning, Malar visited her employer R Navaneethan at his residence on Kannusamy Street at RS Puram, a police officer said. "Navaneethan had rushed her to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital with serious burn injuries. He told police that the woman set herself on fire in a bathroom of his house," he said.

"Though Malar told police that she tried to kill herself, she told her family that Navaneethan and his wife Akila had set her on fire. She had been sexually abused by Navaneethan for the last eight years.Akila knew about the relationship," the officer said. Malar died without responding to the treatment on Wednesday night and police altered the case to 302 (punishment for murder) of the IPC against the couple.
